Aich is located in Styria, south-eastern Austria. It lies in the very well known Dachstein-Tauern region. This region has gained a reputation as an international venue, mainly because of the skiing. It has hosted many ski world cup races, the special olymics 1993 and the skiing world championships in 1982 as well as the nordic combination for the world cup in 2005. During the summer months it becomes a fantastic holiday destination with great mountain and other activities, for example, paragliding, free climbing, mountaing biking etc.

One of the highlights (no pun intended) of the Dachstein region, is the illuminated night run. This is well known all around the world for the yearly skiing world cup night race in January. This region boasts 170 km of world class pistes. They cater to every talent level, from absolute beginner all the way to world class professional.

The region also has a large number of cross country skiing and a very popular route is the long plateau by the Ramsau. The popular snowboarding school makes good use of the three half pipes and the wide open piste that makes for snowboarders heaven.

Other winter activities available in the area include:

Tobogganing
Ice climbing
Eisstockschießen (a local sport similar to curling)
Ice skating
Ice hockey
Ski tours
Husky racing
Snow mobiles courses
Snowshoeing

If you are not in an active mood there are many other things to do to relax. There are the beautiful horse-drawn sleigh rides which will take you through a number of small villages in the area and might even find somewhere for you to warm your yourself with a mug of Austrian Gluhwein!

Another way of taking a tour is going on the hot air balloon rides around the area.

There are many local restaurants and mountain lodges in the area, a majority of which are all home run enterprises. In the evenings you can find a multitude of different pubs and cafés where you can try the local grape juice, wines or perhaps their schnapps. The perfect places to try out the Austrian way of aprés skiing.

There are several shopping malls and small boutiques, as well as plenty of sports shops and supermarkets. So you can always take a day away from the mountains and spend it browsing.
